Gorgeous antique bookends attributed to J.B.Hirsch I'm not sure of the subject: Robin Hood & Marion or Romeo & Juliet? Look at the amazing sculpture of the draped fabric, the details of the clothing and the beautiful expressions on the faces! Made of grey metal with ivorine or celluloid inset faces. These romantic figures stand on a highly polished black stone or marble base. 8” tall Heavy! 8.5 lbs for the pair. Referenced in the “Collector’s Encyclopedia of Bookends” book Plate 324 on page 125. This author thinks that these are a “5” in rarity, (on a scale of 0 to 5 with 5 being the rarest.) Condition is very good but not perfect. Some rubs in the finish. Slight paint loss typical of bookends this age.
