I am always happy to combine shipping winning auctions in order to save on shipping costs. This piece can be shipped to the 50 states and Puerto Rico for $6.90, which includes the mandatory insurance and delivery confirmation. For any other destination, please email for a shipping quote. This is the pattern that is the one word: Fairoaks. Rockford introduced it in 1909, and made it for almost 30 years. The design is a simple one of a wreath of leaves on a pointed end handle. A carving set is used to cut up meat into portion sized pieces. Carving used to be done at the table, with the carver standing at the head of the table and asking how each person wanted their portion. It is an art; carving is something that requires a great deal of practice. Even then, one frequently has difficulties. When done well and with a flourish, carving sets a standard for the meal. It shows the time and effort the host has put into the meal. The carving set has two or three pieces: a knife with an edge that will cut the toughest roast, usually the old carbon steel blades are sharpest; a fork for holding the meat steady while it is being cut and parceling it out; sometimes a hone for sharpening the blade. The hone is an optional piece because the sharpening action also spreads little particles of metal all over the room. Carving sets also look really attractive on a buffet, and the fork may have heat absorbers that prevent it from getting too hot. This fork can be left on a platter and still be touchable. Older carving sets came in 3 sizes: the large for beef roasts and turkeys, the medium sized for larger roast chickens and duck, and the small for steak and wild game carving. The 2 piece carving set offered consists of a hollow handle knife and hollow handle fork, and is the small set for steak and wild game. The knife and fork measure respectively about 9 1/2" and about 8 3/4". These are not pieces of new silver. These items show the patina of as much as 90+ years of careful use. T are the light scratches which constitute normal patina. T is no monogram. Silver is softly lustrous. T is no silver loss. The pattern is crisp and clear. The knife blade is carbon steel, has the patina characteristic of that metal, and does show wear consistent with age and reasonable use. The tines are silverplated, and have some scratches consistent with age and resonable use. I polish all silver before listing on eBay. Please email with any questions before bidding.
