126 A VINTAGE ANTIQUE ROCKINGHAM BENNINGTON ALE PITCHER STONEWARE BROWN SALT GLAZE JUG ONE EBAYER SAID THIS WAS AN OWENS GORGEOUS OLD 1800s YELLOWARE / YELLOW WARE POTTERY DESIGN HAND MADE GLAZED RIB RIBBED BAND DESIGN WITH AN OPEN RING BOTTOM. Dating from somew between the 1880's - 1900's, this beautiful piece of pottery has fabulous Brown salt glaze inside and out. The glaze stops short of the bottom and the underside ring of this bulbous-shaped pot is unglazed. The theory behind this has to do with the storage of liquids or other food items.... redware pots and jugs were placed on the floors of cellars and the unglazed portion would absorb the cool moisture of the ground, keeping the contents cool and fresh without contamination because the insides were fully glazed. MEASURES APPROX. 6 3/4" X 6 1/2" X 8" TALL ~ HOLDS 2 QUARTS NICE STRONG HANDLED PRESENTATION ALE BEER JUG IN GREAT CONDITION WITH NO CHIPS CRACKS OR CRAZING! THIS IS VERY OLD YELLOWARE / YELLOW WARE POTTERY SHOWS WELL THIS WAS FOUND IN MY GRANDMOTHER'S DEN WHILE CLEANING OUT HER HOUSE. IT'S IN GREAT CONDITION FOR IT'S AGE GREAT FOR THE VINTAGE COLLECTOR!
