Rockwell Kent. “….Nota creature was stirring,…” Private Xmas Card, Rare, Mint With envelope, Rockwell Kent/Ausable Forks/New York Kent married his wife Sally in 1940, and they settled onto a farm in a small community located in upstate New York called Ausable Forks. Kent designed and printed a number of personal holiday cards over the decades, this being, perhaps, the bleakest and most haunting of all. The card is printed on a beautiful, white, flexible board with a trim size of 10 9/16” by 7 ¾” and an image size of 8 5/8” by 5 9/16”. The image shows a baby crying alone in a barren, post-apocalyptic landscape. There is a printed title centered below the image, “. . . . Not a creature was stirring, Not even a mouse.” Below the title, is a message “Nevertheless, Hope being eternal Sally and Rockwell Kent/wish you and yours and all mankind a Happy New Year.” The 8” by 10” envelope is cut open at the top and bears a distinctive Kent logo The copy is absolutely SENSATIONAL, with awesome inking. It comes from the collection of Fridolf Johnson, who designed and edited Rockwell Kent: An Anthology of His Works (1982, Knopf). $150 - $250
