Call 513-777-TIME for directions and our hours. Rolling Clock with Beautifully Carved Base is the Rolling Plane Clock which we have in an antique finish. This very unusual clock is never wound with a key, but does feature a totally mechanical movement. The Rolling Clock receives its power from a counterweight inside the heavy brass case. The case slowly rolls down a delicately carved wooden plane, yet keeps the hand-painted porcelain dial upright at all times. It is ten jewels, and the base is over 21 inches in length, with a terrific carved rolling ramp. Just look at the beautifully carved ramp the clock runs down. At the end of the running period, simply replace the clock at the top of the plane, and it continues to run, without missing a beat, since it has retaining power. It is most unusual, because it has a second hand on the dial. The hand set is on the back of the clock, so you do not need to open the beautiful engraved bezel with its bevelled crystal to set the clock. This clock is a replica of an 1890's Swiss clock that was given to the Emperor of China. The prototype is currently located in the Palace Clock Museum in the Forbidden City, in Beijing, China. The Rolling Clock was first reproduced in the early 1970's, at a cost of about $2,000 each. It is 5" round x 3.5" d - Base: 5" h x 22" w x 4.5" d.
