THE ROLLING STONES Satanic Majesties Request MFSL LACQUERS Description : What you are looking at is the original master lacquers made from the original master tapes for the mobile fidelity sound lab pressing of the Rolling Stones 1967 "Their Satanic Majesties Request". These are the highest quality copies of these selected master tapes in existence and Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab is known worldwide by audiophiles as making the highest quality records in the world. These were made by mobile fidelity sound lab in 1985 for The Rolling Stones Collection , a audiophile boxed set licensed from Abkco. It contained audiophile versions of 11 titles from their first album up through Let it Bleed plus Hot Rocks, Vol. 1 & 2. MFSL professionally mounted and framed, some cutting parts (lacquers and stampers) as thank-you gifts to various people or companies that helped them get the boxed set to market . There is some deterioration wear to the silver matte board in the frame due to age. The catalog number assigned to Satanic Majesties was MFSL 1-166 hence the 1166 number on the 2 lacquers. All of this information was supplied by Michael Grantham @ MFSL, who has been with them since 1980.I acquired these lacquers from a former record store owner who closed down in the early 1990's. They were purchased by the owner from an engineer who worked on the project and were packed in storage for many years. As far as documentation you will receive the communication documents between Michael Grantham @ MFSL describing as above the reason for their existence, how they were framed, who received the pieces and all above information.DETAILS OF PRODUCTION The process for vinyl manufacturing begins with the cutting of lacquers which appear to be thick records. Lacquers are made in the mastering studio by playing the mastered source which causes a needle resting on a acetate disc to vibrate. This needle cuts a groove in the acetate and those grooves correspond to the sound vibrations of the source. Two lacquers are needed for a single record, side A and side B. These lacquers are then electroplated using nickel or silver. When separated from the lacquers these metal "negatives" become the metal stampers which are installed on a press. A 2500 lb. press compresses softened vinyl between two labels to form a record. Initially, vinyl tests are made by the 4th or 5th day after receipt of the masters to verify the stampers are flawless. During this time label printing is completed. Each lacquer is 16" in diameter and a lacquer can be played on a turntable but note that it is 16". In closing this is an amazing piece of rock history and is so absolutely unique that no one else in the world not even the Stones themselves have this!
