200 - 400 AD, squat jug with applied handle curling into a thumb rest, rolled rim, and slightly inverted base, 3 5/8''H x 3''W. This jug or pitcher is elegantly crafted and though not a rare form, has special value because of its particularly delicate execution. The end of applied handles are often continued beyond the juncture, but in this case, the craftsman has produced a deliberate curling thumb rest, which is very unusual. From the Collection of Irving Bernstein, former Exec. Dir of the United Jewish Appeal.
