For sale is a very rare Romanian gold coin dated 1922.The 1922-dated Romanian gold coins were struck at the London Royal Mint in 1928 or 1929 (the decree authorizing the issue of these coins was published on June 4th 1927). They were back-dated to commemorate the 1922 Alba Iulia Coronation of Ferdinand a King of Greater Romania. The official authorized mintage for the 20 lei was 300,000.Ferdinand dies on Sept 20th 1927 and in July 1929 the Romanian Leu is devalued as a result of the financial crisis. The 1922-dated gold coins are never put in circulation and basically all the issue is melted later leaving very few survivors. In 2008 the Romanian National Bank issues replica of the 1922 20 lei gold coin in a limited mintage of 500 pieces. The replica is far more common that the original and can be easily distinguished by the letter R engraved above the 1 in 1922.This particular coin is an original one from the 1920's and has been graded MS63 by NGC.You can find this coin in Krause as M1 and in Friedberg as F-10.Please contact me if you have any questions.Free insured shipping in the US and free registered air mail shipping anywhere in the world.FREE!
