Porcelain Lace by RomAmerica Pictured is a gorgeous piece of Romanian Porcelain Lace. This heart-shaped dish is all hand made in a basket-look style which dates back to the 19th century. This particular dish is made in Cluj-Nopoca, Romania, in the Historic Iris Factory, the pre-eminent maker of fine porcelain. The talented artisans t are unparalleled in their ability to create fine pieces of art from tiny strips of porcelain. Their work is imported to the USA by an Alabama company called RomAmerica. The delicate floral design was created by Alabama artist, Gayle Strider. The Romanian artist who replicated her design has signed the back of the piece To make Porcelain Lace, the artist must painstakingly apply clay strands one at a time on to a form that retains the shape as the item is created. Every piece has hundreds, sometimes thousands, of crossovers to form the intricate lace. Skilled hands join the porcelain threads to prevent any distortion in the basket weaving, just as lace is made. After firing, each basket is painted by hand with lovely floral designs. The detail of the porcelain work is extraordinary! The artist must have fantastic patience to create & accomplish each piece.
