Why is this exquisite antique necklace such a bargain?" you may be asking yourself. You'd expect to pay about $100 more, right? Well, don't worry; it isn't a replica and there's nothing wrong with it. We lucked upon a few pieces of old manufacturer's stock: gorgeous Late Victorian brass medallions, necklace chains with original clasps and findings like jump rings, all in pristine condition but rich with the unmistakable patina of age. To make them wearable, we simply applied a fine jeweler's drill and hooked things up. Although you'll be the first person to wear this necklace, there isn't a part of it that isn't around 100 years old - but since it hasn't been handed down through decades in this form, we can't fairly charge as if it had.
This particular medallion is one of my favorite designs. The pensive seated lady is an extremely romantic figure, gorgeously draped and framed by graceful details including curvy foliate forms and a pretty border. The skyline of a turreted medieval town is visible in the background. Measuring about 1 7/8" x 1 1/4", the pendant is suspended from a fine 16" chain with a beautifully detailed filigree clasp. European origin is most probable; the pendant has the classic Art Nouveau look for which France and Belgium were famous. As you know, authentic Nouveau "lady portrait" jewels are extremely hard to find now and this is the genuine article at an incredible price. There's no charge for insured U.S. shipping and gift wrap is always free when desired. Thanks for looking!
