Bidders with zero (0) feedback are kindly requested to write me before bidding The book: THE WORKS OF SHAKESPEARE VOLUME the EIGHTH: Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, and Othello; Collated with the Oldest Copies, and Corrected; with NOTES Explanatory and Critical Shakespeare (Notes by Mr Theobald [Theobald, Lewis, 1688-1744]) London Printed For J & P Knapton, et al., 1752 8 vo, contemporary calf, 3 handsome engravings by Van der Gucht after Gravelot, some browning, rear board hinge largely detached, still a nice example of an 18th century edition of Shakespeare and perhaps the most coveted volume in the set. This is the third Theolbald edition with critical notes. The Dictionary of National Biography entry on Theobald states that "it would not be too much to say that the text of Shakespeare owes more to Theobald than to any other editor."
