This is a FABULOUS Art Deco Cigarette lighter made around 1930 or so. It's made by RONSON and is called TOUCH-TIP. T is a knob on the top that is actually the top of a steel rod "match". This rests in a hole on the top which allows it to soak in lighter fluid inside. To light, you pull it out and push it down on the button on the top. This causes a spark to jump across to the end of the "match" which is asbestos and it lights. THIS IS HIT AND MISS as the mechanics are antique and may need cleaning to spark every time. Condition: T are some minor scratches on the silver areas and the black base has lost some of the black finish. Please see close-up photos. The bottom has green felt and a round recess in the middle with the manufacture ( Art Metal Works, Inc.) /patent # info and is the location for refilling with lighter fluid. It is exactly like one in Barbra Striesand's Art Deco collection that she sold a while back. Dimensions: 3.5" wide x 7.5" long x 4.5" high I was not able to find another one like this one on the internet. I did find a website with Ronson information: " The Ronson Company located in Newark New Jersey, originally started out as the Art Metal Works Company in the late 1890's making many types of decorative items such as bookends, lamps, statues, trophy's, incense burners and other home decorative items. Many of the items were fashioned after European and Asian designs. During the advent of the flint, the Art Metal Works Company began producing lighters, both pocket and table models and the first versions were called striker lighters using a simple system of striking a piece of flint with a steel rod wrapped with naphtha soaked asbestos. The steel rod, when struck against the flint would cause a spark which in turn ignited the asbestos wick which was soaked with this lighter fluid." Shipping: Actual item is 3lbs. (+ packaging)
