Title: Rookwood 15 1/2" Oxblood Vase or Lamp Description: This enchanting Rookwood art pottery vase is in an oxblood red gloss with a white interior.The shape is a bulbous body with a long thin neck. It may have been designed as a lamp as the hole on the bottom was designed into the piece. The hole is approximately 1 inch across and perfectly centered.T are no chips, cracks or damage. Dimensions: 15 1/2" high, 4" across at the top opening, and 9" across at the widest point. Rookwood Pottery was founded by Maria Longworth Nichols (later Mrs. Bellamy Storer, Jr.) in 1880, forming the business in Cincinnati, Ohio in an old abandoned schoolhouse bought for her by her father which she named Rookwood after the family country estate. Rookwood Pottery has always been expensive and remains so today. Rookwood was sold in stores such as Tiffany, Ovington and other large department stores in major cities across the country.The company has always maintained a strong, individualistic artistic tradition.
