Description :
This auction is for a rare and beautiful Rookwood vase with vellum glaze and has what appear to be a large blue crocus that reaches up 7 inches on one side. On the other side, t is a smaller delicate blue crocus that reaches up about 5 ½ inches. On the bottom is the signature of the artist Carl Schmidt who is touted to be one of the foremost artists who ever worked in Rookwood. It stands 8 inches tall with a diameter on top of three inches. As with all Rookwood Pottery, it is heavily marked on the bottom. The bottom is marked with the Rookwood sunburst symbol, the Roman numerals XIV, two v marks, the mold number 2082E, and the artist's mark. Condition: The vase has light overall crazing and 3 hairline cracks. The cracks are all the way through, two are quite tight, the third less so. The two tighter cracks extend about three inches straight down from the top. The other crack extends four inches down and then turns to the right for about 1 ½ inches. No other damage. I have placed a low starting bid because of the damage, but the vase displays nicely. I try to describe my items as accurately as possible and mention any flaws that I see. Some imperfections, manufacturing flaws, signs of use, etc., are normal and to be expected. I encourage you to email me with any questions you have.
