ROOSEVELT IN THE BAD LANDS by Hermann Hagedorn. Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1921. Limited edition Illustrated with black and white photographs and drawings. Publication Number Eleven of the Roosevelt Memorial Association. One of 375 copies of the large paper edition. Exterior slightly sunned otherwise extremely good condition! This copy belonged to R.G.W.Vail the Roosevelt Library Librarian and t is an inscription to him on the front endpaper from the author dated 1921. Included with this book are several Teddy Roosevelt Bad Lands related items including a period facsimile of an original typed letter from the OFFICE OF THEODORE ROOSEVELT that starts: Dear Dan: Herman Hagedorn is a fellow crucible man, and fellow literary damned cuss. They have saked him to write a biography of me. He is the only human being I have ever wished to have write a biography of me..." the letter is signed "T.R.". The "T.R." is signed in ink. This is probably a promotional letter that went out with several copies, however, I believe it is the only known copy. The letter is starting to split on the end of the folds.Also included is an actual typed letter from Houghton Mifflin Company to Mr. R.W.G.Vail the Head Librarian of the Roosevelt library. The letter reads: "We have this morning received, through our Mr. Wallace, your note ordering a copy of Mr. Hagedorn'
