You are bidding on a wonderful, very rare porcelain figurine made by Rosenthal Selb Bavaria, depicting a man (or some sort of mythological figure?) sitting with two blue parrots, teaching them how to sing. The first bird, which the man holds out in front of him, appears to be having a grand time, with his beak wide open singing and a happy expression on his face. The second parrot is perched on the man's shoulder, also paying attention but with a bit of a mischevious look on this face. The details on this piece are exceptional -- everything from the man's muscle definition, curled-up toes and gesturing hands, to the feathers and lively and curious expressions on the faces of the parrots. The coloration of the entire piece is subtle and lovely. This figurine is in superb condition, with no known nicks, chips, cracks, flakes or restorations. (Any white spots in the photos are just reflections off the glossy surface.) It measures approximately 6 inches (15cm) tall, 3-1/8 inches (8cm) wide and 6-3/4 inches (17cm) deep. The figurine bears the green backstamp "Rosenthal Selb Bavaria" on its underside, along with a crown and two crossed swords. I believe this particular stamp dates the figurine to around 1920.
