Roseville - Freesia -1945 - Tropical Green - Shape # 119 - 7 inch Vase The American Home magazine's July 1945 issue appeared an advertisement for the newest in the series of floral patterned American art pottery offered by ROSEVILLE called "FREESIA". In 40's style and futuristic (if not often funky) shapes and an innovative finish technique called 'underglaze', this pottery must have seemed as foreign as the Rings around Saturn! "New decorative smartness and beauty in this loveliest of Roseville creations! Choose from 48 graceful shapes and sizes in rich new underglaze colors - Tropical Green, Tangerine, or Delft Blue. At gift shops and department stores." This is the actual wording from that 1945 magazine! Flash forward to 2007 and it's now available for you to bid on eBay! This beautiful VASE is in excellent to near MINT condition. It is not a reproduction. It has no crazing, no chips, no cracks, no repairs, and color-wise is a true representation of "Tropical Green" with no weird color runs or shifts. The Freesia flower bunches of cream and purple were skillfully painted and shaded and give an overall watercolor rendition of that tropical bloom: FREESIA! The bottom has a black "A" mark and "12" mark on the pottery before it was fired, making these marks permanent. This may have been to represent an artist's signature.
