Roseville - Freesia Pattern -1945 - Tropical Green - Shape # 199 - 6 inch Vase or Planter. In The American Home magazine's July 1945 issue appeared an advertisement for the newest in the series of floral patterned American art pottery offered by ROSEVILLE called "FREESIA". In futuristic (and often funky) shapes and an innovative finish technique called "underglaze", this pottery must have seemed as foreign as the Rings around Saturn! "New decorative smartness and beauty in this loveliest of Roseville creations! Choose from 48 graceful shapes and sizes in rich new underglaze colors - Tropical Green, Tangerine, or Delft Blue. At gift shops and department stores." This is the actual wording from that 1945 magazine! Flash forward to Leap Day 2008 and it is now available for you to bid on eBay! This beautiful Vase or Planter is in excellent condition. It is not a reproduction. It has no crazing, no chips, no cracks, no repairs, and color-wise is a true representation of "Tropical Green". The Freesia flower bunches of cream and purple were skillfully painted and shaded and give an overall watercolor rendition of that tropical bloom: FREESIA! The shape of this piece is very 40's with a flowing yet geometrical look; This piece is rather unique in that it is not round but IT HAS SQUARE SIDES AND A SQUARE BOTTOM. The photos show the Vase / Planter - FRONT (Purple Blossoms), OBVERSE (Cream Blossoms), the View from ABOVE, The View from the SIDE, the View of the BOTTOM (Raised Roseville markings) and 1 DETAIL PHOTO showing the Purple Blossoms, as well.
