It was described as modern stoneware in sculptured forms with textured glazes that were oven-proof. Unfortunately, housewives were drawn to the indestructible Melamine plastic dinnerware rather than Raymor, so the dinnerware line was soon discontinued; and the entire Roseville Pottery operation ceased production in 1954. The recent passion for all things 'Mid-Century' has given Raymor new life, and it's now popular with collectors and often displayed in museums that feature MCM (Mid-CenturyModern) design.The two versions of RAYMOR'S white glaze ('Contemporary White') can be difficult to distinguish. In our experience, the matte glaze has a mostly smooth (and not mottled) surface plus a slightly taupe coloration. The 'gloss' version tends to have a more textured surface, and its overall color is more toward 'sand', though the color can vary from piece to piece; and the extent of this glaze's 'mottling' can also vary widely, from barely visible to vivid.This unusual piece is a huge covered casserole that's finished in the gloss white glaze read more
