Mid 1800âe(tm)s rosewood writing box in good condition. No missing or replaced veneer. Solid mahogany carcass with a thick skin of rosewood veneer. Measures approximately 14âe x 9âe x 5âe. Unspoilt patina. Ornate floral Mother of Pearl inlays to the top and front. T are a couple of VERY minor chips but these ARE so minor that you would have to look very closely to locate them. Top closes square and true. The interior features all the original brassware and a working key is supplied. A minor chip to the veneer between the lock hasp and sliding slope clasp in all probability caused as a result of levering open the slope section. The inkwells and quill are not included though are available as an optional extra. (Quite a few past bidders have requested that the box value be devalued as they preferred to have genuine antique inkwells rather than reproductions....both old and new are easily obtained via eBay). A replacement leather has been professionally fitted and has been strengthened across all fold lines in keeping with the original method employed. The leather has a âe~antiquedâe(tm) finish and both blind and gilt embossed features. A fine example of this popular style of inlay that featured on boxes of all types throughout Victoriaâe(tm)s reign. Unpacked weight 2.8Kg Re' postage cost....I can supply an estimate and invoice on Mondays when the item is packed and the EXACT cost is known. I do not charge for packaging /handling and quite often additional items are postage free depending upon volume rather than weight. For regular buyers I offer various options to ensure considerable postage savings. I try to provide comprehensive descriptions and detailed photographs, in the unlikely event of an item not being as portrayed winning bidders can take this statement as a guarantee that I WILL refund the full bid price. All items are packed VERY securely and to date I have not had any items damaged in transit. I cannot be held responsible for loss or damage but always obtain proof of postage and will do all that I can to assist with any claim.
