Victorian inlaid rosewood writing box in good condition. Measures approximately 13 ½âe x 9âe x 5âe. Unspoilt patina. Original inlaid oval Mother of Pearl cartouche and escutcheon in perfect condition. Two small slithers of replaced veneer, one on each side at the top corners, both done well with period veneer to blend in terms of colour, grain and patina tfore they do not detract. Top closes square. Open to reveal the ORIGINAL velvet covering to the slope surface. It is as to be expected split along the fold lines but is sufficiently intact to ensure that both slope surfaces remain in position. The surface could of course be easily replaced (quote upon request) but arguably it would be a pity to remove such an asset to the box given the condition and virtually impossible to replace embossed detail. Storage areas beneath the slope surfaces. Twin inkwell sections, wafer slope and dished pen tray with storage space beneath...All original. The inkwells and quill are not included but are available as an optional extra. I must add that the inkwells displayed are slightly too tall to permit the top closing as it should, correct sized inkwells are easily obtained via eBay. Hinges and lock in very fine condition with a working key supplied. A fine example and always good to see original features in such condition.
