This style of inlaid rosewood box was extremely popular throughout the bulk of the 1800's and consequently very frequently feature on Ebay. It is not however that frequent that they are in such marvellous condition as this example. Measures approximately 11" x 8" x 4 ¾". Inlaid with Mother of Pearl and pewter bands. All edges are keen. One piece of replaced veneer to the bottom right front corner, done well to blend in terms of colour, grain and lustre. Unspoilt patina with even colour and grain to all aspects. Top closes perfectly square. Whilst the exterior is much the same as many Ebay listed boxes it is the interior that sets it apart from most.....I doubt it could be much better as it looks like it has NEVER been used. Drop forward 'love letter' envelope to the lid interior in perfect condition. Original tray complete with all dividers, lids etc. Side metal handles. ALL lining original, none missing and free of wear through. At the very least usually t is wear or lose to the paper lining on the top of the tray supports and edges of the tray.....Not on this piece. Original brass 'stop' hinges. Original lock with working key supplied. Yes, this example is slightly higher in price than most but the condition IS exceptional. No collection is complete without an example of this style and this IS one VERY fine example. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
