This auction is for a vintage right and left pair of English Stratford rough coat poodles. They are 5 inches tall and the base is 3 inches wide. They are white with yellow eyes, and gold collars. They are in perfect condition, with only very slight crazing. They both have part of the Staffordshire stamp on the base. These and other ceramics are from an estate sale of a woman who collected ceramic figurines for years. Please see my other auctions for more ceramic figurines, and collectibles. Staffordshire dogs dropped out of favor with collectors until the 1920s and 1930s, when reproductions filled the market. As in Victorian days, collectors displayed them on fireplace mantels. Even at that time, prices were high. By the 1940s, collectors had lost interest and prices plummeted. The dogs once again caught the attention of collectors in the 1980s and prices sky rocketed. Today, prices can be as low as $350 for a pair of late 19th century spaniel figurines. However, rarer ones, like Dalmatians, even when damaged or with known restorations, can sell for several thousand dollars.Postage is $10.00, mailed Priority Mail.
