Offered is an antique tapestry vase made circa 1890 by the Franz Anton Mehlem Earthenware Factory under the Royal Bonn label. Hard to find examples of this treatment. This vase measures just over 10" in height and 4 1/2" across the mouth. The porcelain surface is textured all over with tan and gilt ground. It is handpainted and enameled with a floral trellis opening to a lake and castle scene. Lots of detail in the large flowers and leaves. Some appear to be enamel or they are very thick paint. The back of the vase has a large blue daisy with four flowers and green shaded leaves. Gold spray around the mouth. The vase is stamped with the brown Royal Bonn mark used from the 1890s until 1920 though it is very hard to read. There are also handpainted numbers which I won't attempt to report. Also an impressed Frank Ant. Wehlem mark and the number 24. The vase has some damage. There is a spider web crack inside approxmately 1 3/4" by 1 1/4" by 1 1/2". It is not apparent from the outside of the vase. There is also a crack around the maker's mark on the bottom which I can see with a very strong glass. A few nicks in the tapestry at the bottom edge. See pics. Priced accordingly. Still a very pretty display piece. Posted with eBay Mobile
