This auction is for another set of fine sterling silver we recently purchased as part of an estate. The elderly owner took loving care of her sterling silver during her decades of ownership. Other than a minimal amount of polishing hairlines (what gives silver a desirable patina) due to normal cleaning and care, and possibly a few small dark spots, the sterling silver is in excellent condition with no dents, scratches, or damage noted. These items have no initials or engraving. Royal Danish By International Silver was introduced in 1939. This finely crafted Sterling Silver Flatware is influenced by the fine lines of Scandinavian design. The result is both stately and modern. The accent is on form and symmetry in this stately design, which takes its influence from the traditional artistry of Scandinavia. Bold openwork reflects this modern interpretation, even on the knife handles. Fluted columns provide a variety of surfaces for the play of light along Royal Danish's slender lines. Cut with the clarity of a fine jewel, these pieces are majestic in weight and style - a dramatic accent for any table motif. This offering is for twelve place settings, each containing seven pieces. Each of the settings includes a salad fork, a dinner fork. a soup spoon, a teaspoon, a similar sized dessert spoon, a sterling silver blade/solid silver handle butter knife, and a dinner knife. Along with the twelve place settings, we are including a cold meat fork, a large salad spoon, a gravy ladle, two large table serving spoons, a large serving fork, a combination pierced fork/spoon server, and a master butter knife. Finally, along with this fabulous set, we are including an ORIGINAL, twelve setting storage chest. It is lined with a protective velvet type cloth by Pacific Silver Cloth (patented), and it has a double zippered, alligator pattern vinyl cover to contain and protect the silver. T are two convenient handles on each side to make it easy to carry this HEAVY, STERLING SILVER, heirloom flatware. A stamped date on the bottom of the case is April 27, 1954 which is probably the date at which this sterling silver set and serving pieces was purchased. Each SEVEN PIECE PLACE SETTING is made by INTERNATIONAL STERLING and it is the popular ROYAL DANISH pattern. Each setting consists of a dinner fork, a salad fork, a soup spoon, a butter knife, a large knife, and two spoons used as either a tea spoon, or a dessert spoon. The estimated weight of the sterling silver in each setting is 272 grams or 8.75 troy ounces. The large knife is (all measurements considered approximate) 8 7/8 inches long, the butter knife is 5 7/8 inches long, the dinner fork is 7 1/8 inches long, the salad fork is 6 3/8 inches long, the soup spoon is 6 1/2 inches long, the teaspoon/dessert spoon is 6 inches long. Although we tried to weigh and measure each item with careful attention, please consider these weights and measurements as best estimates only, and they are not guaranteed. T does not appear to be any weighting of this silver item with non-silver materials except for the large dinner knife, and this item is not marked as being weighted. The estimated weight of the stainless steel blade, and the non-silver material in the handle has not been included in the weight of the setting as previously mentioned. The weights (rounded to the nearest gram) of the serving pieces are described as follows: The cold meat fork 103 grams, a large salad/rice spoon 103 grams, gravy ladle 55 grams, two large table serving spoons 149 grams (both), a large serving fork 85 grams, a pierced fork/spoon 74 grams, and solid silver, master butter knife 48 grams. The total sterling silver weight of the serving pieces is 617 grams for all eight pieces. The combined sterling silver weight of each place setting is 272 grams. For twelve settings, this comes to a total of 3,264 grams of sterling silver (272 g. X 12 settings), or 104.95 troy ounces of 0.925 sterling silver. This amounts to 97.08 troy ounces PURE SILVER .
