A rare Doulton Lambeth stoneware jug commemorating the death of Nelson. c1905. Height: 8.2". Base is impressed with "Doulton Lambeth England" lion backstamp, "X6421" (denoting 1905"), "gs" and inscribed monogram "JR". Decorated in relief, this stunning jug features a profile portrait of Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson to the center, this flanked by battle scenery to the sides and with the inscription " LORD NELSON - BORN 1758 - DIED 1805". At the top are the words " ENGLAND EXPECTS EVERY MAN WILL DO HIS DUTY". Glazed in blue on a khaki/blue mottled ground, with beautifully crafted rope borders, and a rope twisted handle of honey-brown. The modeling is exceptionally crisp and detailed, without fault. In excellent condition. Thank you!
