Up for consideration is a beautiful Royal Doulton Lambeth Sweet Meat container C 1881, decorated by Francis E. Lee, with silver rim, handle and lid. The faience type decoration is a brown and white petal "eye' shaped design surrounded by a green band with white enamel flowers. The space between the "eyes" is a leaf like fan in a beautiful cobalt blue. The inside is a nut brown color glaze. The silver lid is flat at the rim and has 3 rings at the domed top. The finial is disk shaped with beading around the edge. The handle also is beaded on both sides. The silver condition itself is great. The lid rim has some rippling and t is a dent on the rim edge as pictured. T is a hairline crack in the silver rim as pictured. Not sure if this is original or has come from polishing. I suspect it is original as t are not damages close to this area. The body of the piece is perfect with no chips, cracks or repairs. T is a factory chip on the inside base but it is glazed over and can not be seen from the outside. This very nice piece has 3 additional decorator marks aside from Lee; it is signed by Assistant Ernest R. Bishop; Senior Assistant Lizzie Padbury and Junior Assistant Georgina White. It also is marked with the "rosette" mark used from 1881 - 1891. T are no hallmarks on the silver but the lid is signed "Benetfink & Co. 69 Cheapside London " A wonderful addition to this piece is a postcard from a London Bookseller, Henry Southeran, w someone has requested this piece from a dealer. I believe this is a very old card and seems to be written by a fountain or quill pen Please ask any questions and read our terms prior to bidding. Bid with confidence.
