This is Royal Doulton at its best. Made of vitrified stoneware this Commemorative jug c 1905 celebrates the life of Admiral Nelson 1758-1805, the Admiral of the British Fleet and the 100 th anniversary of the year of his death. This wonderful piece measures approximately 8" in height. It is decorated on three sides - one with a profile of Nelson, and two with images of what I believe is HMS (His Majesty's Ship) Victory- his flag ship at the battle of Trafalgar. This was the signal run up by Nelson at the beginning of the battle of Trafalgar at which he was fatally wounded. The handle is shaped like a piece of rope while the base is coloured in magnificent sea foam blue. The base is marked with an impressed marked Royal Doulton with a lion atop a crown atop the Royal Doulton mark and the incised initials of PB (decorators mark) along with the impressed lower case initials of gs (potters mark). In fantastic condition with the exception of a chip along the top edge (visible for approximately ¼" on the outside and approximately ¾ of an inch on the inside) which results in a tight hairline crack of about 4 inches which is visible only on the inside.
