This listing is part of a recently acquired new old stock purchase that was leftover from the May Company department store which is no longer around. The pattern Holly Holiday was created exclusively for and sold in the department stores of May Co, Robinson’s, Famous Barr, L S Ayers, Kaufman’s, Filene’s, and others that eventually became Federated, and are all now Macy’s. The original pattern was made in Japan by Royal Limited and backstamped with Royal Limited, a lion, Holly Holiday and Made in Japan. Around 2000, like everyone else, the company decided to have this pattern made in China for a lot less and the result was a product that could not be used in either the microwave or dishwasher. These pieces are backstamped with a large capital H, Holly Holiday, and Made in China. Needless to say, the made in China pieces are not as durable or as desirable as those made in Japan. Everything offered in my listings, with the exception of a gravy and underplate , is from Royal Limited and made in Japan.
