Up for auction is a British WW2 medal group and related documents to Ordinary Seaman Joseph Cyril Hiscock P/JX 516997. Included with the group are Hiscock's three original fullsize medals -the 1939-1945 STar, the Atlantic Star and the War Medal. Included is the Admiralty handwritten certificate, a letter from King George VI (Buckingham Palace), a copy of the Portsmouth War Memorial entry, a CWGC copy and the original medal box the medals were sent in. Ord Smn. Hiscock was with the crew of HMS Tweed a Royal Navy River Class frigate when it was torpedoed and sunk by German U-Boat U305 in mid Atlantic on January 7, 1944. HMS Tweed sank to the bottom of the Atlantic in two minutes. 52 crew members of the 150 HMS Tweed crew were rescued by HMS-soon to become HMCS Nene. O/S Hiscock was only 18 years of age at the time the sinking.
