Royal Navy WW2 Barr & Stroud CF42 Binoculars Damaged 7 x 50 binoculars marked with yellow broad arrows to both barrels, indicating naval use. Each barrel has a filter wheel that allows yellow, grey and green filters to be introduced into the optical path. Maker marked next to LH objective: “BARR & STROUD 7X C.F.42 GLASGOW & LONDON BRITISH PATENT APPLICATION No. (illegible)/1940” and on RH “A.P. No.AC20217 SERIAL 25244 BRITISH PATENT No. 435220/1934 No. 376495/1931” . Externally the finish is mostly good with some wear where you would expect. RH barrel has good optics, though dirty. LH barrel however, has a serious FAULT: the prism assembly has come loose inside. This problem can, I believe, be professionally repaired. There are also some bits of damage to the ends of the central “hinge pin” and a crack in the LH prism housing, so I think this pair has had a big whack at some point. So despite good outward appearance, only fair condition overall.
