This is a super nice... three footed Spooner... in one of my very favorite patterns... the old "Eye Winker" pattern. This ornate piece of art glass stands about 6 inches tall... about 3 & 3/4 inches across the widest point in the center... and appears to be in nothing less that perfect condition. Three gracefully styled "scroll" feet hold this "splash of color" off the tabletop in a sturdy stance... making in stable... practical... and very attractive. The three fan like "head dresses" at the top of this Spooner have been pulled in by the glassworker... like we would see in a "Rose Bowl" style. This gives it an "Art Deco" appearance... almost like a stylish headband has been placed just above the "eyes" in this old Eye Winker pattern. Just a stunning presentation!!!... The body glass is a deep Amethyst color... often referred to as "Royal Plum" by collectors. And over this rich body glass is a colorful "Peacock" Carnival Glass finish that just "dances" with fleeting rainbows of vivid colors. I know that both the L. G. Wright Glass Company... and the Hobbs Glass Company used this "Eye Winker" pattern over the years. I believe it was first introduced to the glass world sometime in the early 1900's. But I don't have any information as to exactly when ether one of these companies opened... closed... or first used this Eye Winker pattern. I'll leave some of these research up to the new owner!!!... Heck... that's half the fun in collecting!!!... The search for unusual pieces... the anticipation of the acquisition... and researching the history of our new found treasures!!!... This deep Amethyst "Royal Plum" body glass has long been one of the best glass color on which to "bestow" a Carnival finish on. This plus the countless "nooks and crannies"... and "bumps and depression" incorporated into this Eye Winker design... come together to make one stunning "package". Take one more look at those long "scroll" Legs... that graceful hand formed three-pointed top rim... that's been drawn in ever so slightly by the glass worker... and that rich "Royal Plum" body glass... the "eye teasing" rainbows of color in the Peacock Carnival Glass finish... and all of this "draped over" that intriguing old Eye Winker pattern. Each of these special features do their part to "dump tons" of character onto this stunning Spooner. I know... Spooners... along with Salt Dips... Boon Dishes... large Water Pitchers... and numerous other items that were once a part of the everyday dinner table have long been abandon... and absent from the scene... but wouldn't this beauty be the perfect receptacle in which to serve fresh green garden onions or celery sticks... soaking in a ice water bath???... Or how about as a vase for flowers???... Or maybe just to set out somew.. to enjoy the rainbows of colors that seem to "live" on the surface... only to mysteriously move with the changing light... just when we think we have them figured out!!!...
