This is a nice set of two (2)... Fan shaped... Deviled Egg Plates... in a deep Amethyst body glass... and with a vibrant Peacock Carnival Glass finish. These would also serve well as Oyster Plates. Each plate is just 1 inch tall... 9 ½ inches long... 6 ¼ inches wide... and both appear to be in perfect condition. Each Plate will hold a half dozen of your delicious deviled eggs... and the center portion of the "fan" forms a comfortable handle. The top side of each Plate is attractive with all of the rainbows of color incorporated into the Carnival Glass finish... but the underside with its hobnail and fan pattern is just a delight to behold. I'm finding no "maker's marks" on either of these Egg Plates... and even though I've had... and sold several of these in years past... I've never known their origin. Down though history glass companies would move both molds and finished product back and forth from one to another. The presence of a "maker's mark" would make it impractical to exchange either molds... or finished product. In some cases we recognize a pattern... and can attribute it to a specific a maker. But in many cases... old companies have closed down... and their molds have been... "scattered to the winds"... making it almost impossible to fallow their elusive "trails". At one point in time... many of the glass makers got their heads together and agreed that they would not mark their products... so that sales personal would represent... not just a single company... but many companies... and carry a much wider range of items. This provided many glass makers with much wider market... better exposure to retailers... and the buying public. However... this agreement didn't work out too well with some of the more affluent makers... their higher quality items were being represented alongside lesser quality pieces... that were being offered at lower prices. This hurt the "brand identification" of the better quality makers... and after just a few years... the agreement fell apart. So it's not uncommon today... to find pieces made by some of the top quality glass makers... but without their identifying marks. Keep in mind now... you're bidding on a pair of this delightful Deviled Egg Plates. I think either one of them could stand on their own at auction... but the ladies tell me you'd never make just six deviled eggs... so we'll put the two in the same auction!!!... It really does make a nice set. One Plate for each end of the table!!!....
