Royal Vienna Porcelain Plate This Royal Vienna portrait of a young woman is absolutely beautiful in its muted simplicity. The plate which measures 8 inches, is a burgandy/brown color trimmed with 4 different borders. T is an intricate gold filagree, next a green/orange/yellow herringbone design, next a lovely border with yellow background with coral/orange flowers and green leaves, followed once again by the green/orange/yellow herringbone design. The frame is brass, approximatetly 1/2 inch in width with an intricate design. On top is the crown with the peacocks on either side. The center portrait is 5 inches. It is not signed by the artist that I can find and I do not know the identity of the young woman, however that said, I do believe that she is royalty. Her face in profile is all innocent and virginal. She wears a headpiece which I believe is called a coronet. She wears a multiple strand of pearls and around her shoulders is an ermine stole or perhaps this might be the trim on her gown. The background of her portrait is roses. It is the frame with the crown on top and the peacocks on either side that make me believe that she is royalty. This is pure speculation on my part. The plate is marked with the beehive and the mark of Friedrich Simon whose company decorated plates from the Bohemia Ceramic Works and other Karlovy Vary (Karlsbad, Bohemia, Austria) area factories. I have attached in one of the pictures the reference that I used from Ginnni's Bohemian & Czech Porcelain Factory and Marks Information. Her website is /bohemian/porcelain/marks. She is a wonderful source and identifies many false beehive marks. This plate was purchased recently at an estate sale that was an absolute collectors' dream. I hope that you think that this small plate is as wonderful as I think it is. Please email me with any questions before bidding and thank you for looking at this lovely plate today. Good luck.
