ROYCROFT COMPLETE 20 Vol. SET #973 of 1000 Editions Complete Writings of Elbert Hubbard: Authors Edition is a Very Fine 20 Volume Set - The Complete Writings of Elbert Hubbard: Authors Edition East Aurora, NY: The Roycroft Shop, 1909-1915 This is a complete set of 20 Volumes. It was limited to 1000 editions and they are all in Excellent Condition with some very minor staining and minor foxing - it appears that they were never read! Included with this set is 2 hand written notes by Hubbard, ( one of them written on the letter head of "The Essex Hotel" of Boston Mass. ), that are inside of a folder titled "Original Manuscript of Elbert Hubbard". They w tucked inside the first volume.Elbert Green Hubbard (1856-1915) Author, publisher, philosopher, Utopian and Huckster, preached and practiced a conservative gospel of self-reliance and capitalism which he put into practice at the Roycroft Shops, an Arts & Crafts community in East Aurora, New York, modeled on William Morris. Hubbard was one of the great innovators in merchandising and marketing before he devoted himself to writing, lecturing and handicrafts. He began issuing his essays and sketches in annual uniform volumes beginning in 1909. The series continued until his death in 1915. He was on board the Lusitania when it was torpedoed. The books are hand tooled, hand set and printed on special paper. They contain his appreciations of great authors, artists, politicians, political and religious thinkers, revolutionaries, capitalists and famous couples as well as spiritual works.Measures (inches) 8-1/2 x 11-1/2 three-quarter green morocco. Four band spine with gilt. Red ribbon bound in. Hand set, printed on cream rag paper with Roycroft water mark. Gilt top edge. Photo or engraving frontispiece in each volume. Etchings of subjects precede each essay. Illuminated initial caps. Each volume was hand numbered and signed by Hubbard. These are all #973 of 1000.
