There is a red thorn in the center of each petal.Check out my web gallery at: A Word about enlarging images:Glass is made from sand, silica, sodium oxide, calcium oxide and other minor additives. Today's digital pictures use megapixel zoom technology. When you enlarge photos of glass, you can see some of these ingredients which appear as imperfections that you would not see with a naked eye. A marble is best viewed on a 1:1 scale. When you hold it in your hand, you will not be able to see many of the imperfections that appear when a photo is enlarged.Annealing :All of my marbles are annealed. Annealing is the process of 'baking' the marble at 1065 degrees F. for about 30 minutes, then slowly reducing the temperature over a period of about 8 hours. This process relieves the stress inside of the marble produced from the heat of the flame. Marbles that have been annealed are stronger, chip resistant, and very rarely crack.Please note:Hand-spun marbles at times have a slightly irregular shape. Rather than a defect, it is a sign that the marble was truly hand-spun.Many handmade marbles also have a pontil (punty) mark. This is a mark left by the glass rod that was melted onto the marble so I could hold it in the flame and spin it to get the round shape. This rod is called a pontil (punty).
