For auction is a beautiful, scalloped 9" RS portrait plate with the Madame Recamier bust. The blue green coloring of the plate is still bold and the gold trim all around the edge is very prominent. Slight wear to plate, which is consistent to the age of this piece, NO CHIPS OR CRACKS. Would be a find to any RS collector. Please see pictures below. The distinctive and highly respected RS mark represents porcelain produced by two brother makers of fine porcelain with the last name (or sir name) Schlegelmilch, and produced in the mid 1800's to about 1920. The "RS" marked on their famous is for the initials of their father, Rudolph Schlegelmilch. T have been about 30 RS marks discovered with slight variation, but must have RS to be authentic. Each brother had their own factory, one in Suhl and one in Tillowitz, regions controlled by Prussia and then Germany in the late 1800's and rich in the natural ingrediants needed for pporcelain. The S& T stamp above the RS stamp on this plate are probably for Suhl and Tillowitz making this date toward the early part of their production because both regions fell to different rule and different names. Buyer pays all shipping insurance and handlind charges. The handling charge is $5.00 due to the extensive material needed to ensure proper packing for antique porcelain.
