is a great 1/9 Plate Ruby Red Ambrotype. This photograph reveals a young man that could be a riverboat gambler, soldier, or who knows. If nothing else, he is definitely handsome, or so my wife informs me. What makes this image so nice is the young mans' period clothing. His hat takes on a greenish hue. He is wearing a large bow tie with checkered shirt. I believe he has on two jackets. T is a thick overcoat on the outside, and what appears to be a vest or paisley pattern jacket underneath. This image would have been made during the early to mid 1860's, or the Civil War period. This Ambrotype comes in a complete paper mache over wood case which has a repaired spine. T is a cover glass, brass mat and preserver too. The image with leather case measures 2 7/8 inches tall by 2 3/8 inches wide. For your information, I have specifically scanned a picture of the Ruby Ambrotype with and without the case and cover glass so you get a good look at the image itself. Many times, the cover glass, which is often sand-cast, has a tendency to distort the clarity and color of images. I have not focused my description as much on the case as the image, because the value of this piece lies in the great photograph. Consider the case a bonus for winning the item.
