You are bidding on a magnificent ruby glass flask with heavy sterling silver overlay and sterling cap. This piece is truly magnificent. You have to feel it in your hands to really appreciate it. The whole thing is 6 3/4 inches tall and holds one half pint as is marked. The flask is marked sterling in two places, one on the base and also marked sterling on the top hinge of the cap. The bottom of the flask is removable to make a little cup for drinking. The glass is marked "pp" etched in the ruby glass where the base of the glass is cut and polished flat.
The sterling silver overlay is hand decorated with an art nouveau style carnation flower motif in deep hand engraving. There is also a monogram that looks like "AWH". The monogram itself incorporates the carnation motif so it looks like it was custom made and custom ordered for AWH. The engraving is heavy and deep. The hand engraved decorations are heavy and deep. The hand carved monogram appears in two places. One on the little cup and another monogram is in the overlay which is attached to the flask itself. Let me know if you want more pictures. I would expect this piece to be marked Tiffany, Cartier or Lalique or one of the great names, but the maker is strangely unknown. It is certainly one of the highest quality items I have ever handled. It's a mystery that there is no marking for this skilled master maker. This piece is heavy! You will love how it feels in your hands and want to roll your fingers all over it. It is a pleasure to handle and to look at. The light coming through from behind the red glass is magical and jewel like with the beautiful nouveau decorations playing in the light. There is no damage to the glass. No repairs anywhere on the piece. This is an original period piece of exceptional quality in exceptional condition. It needs to be polished.
