Royal Rudolstadt Biscuit Jar ~ 1887-1918~ Y ou are bidding on this Royal Rudolstadt porcelain biscuit jar. This jar is thick, cream-colored matte porcelain decorated with hand painted purple pansies. The lid has flowers and a gorgeous gold ribbon finial handle. The gold is worn from high points on the handle. T is a 2" hairline on the jar, but it is on the side. The jar still displays perfectly. R udolstadt, New York was in business c.1887-1918 . The mark for this factory was owned by U. S. importers Lewis Straus & Sons in New York. Originally, Rudolstadt was a faience factory in the Thuringia region of Germany from 1720 to about 1791. From about 1887 to 1918, the New York and Rudolstadt Pottery made decorated porcelain marked with the RW and crown familiar to collectors. This porcelain was imported by Lewis Straus and Sons of New York, which later became Nathan Straus and Sons. The word Royal was included in their import mark. Collectors often call it Royal Rudolstadt. Most pieces found today were made in the late nineteenth or early twentieth century. Dimensions: 8" high x 5 1/2" diameter
