A very nice hand finished art style ceramic jug which I believe is probably Art Nouveau but may be Art Deco. Certainly, having examined the base I would have thought pre WW2. Predominantly orange and blue hues this is strangely vibrant and subdued at the same time. Its appearance dramatically changes according to light. It was quite difficult to photograph for this reason. However the final shots do, I think, give a good idea of finish. I would describe the finish as Ruskin like. I assume the pot itself is factory produced but the finish is "Studio" and hand done. I could find no marks of origin. I have seen similar by Bretby but those were always clearly marked as such. The feel of this piece is amazingly tactile and you just don't want to put it down. Dimensions are:Diameter of the foot 5.5cmDiameter of rim 6.0cm (Slightly elongated to form the spout). Height from foot to rim 14.5cmPlus 1cm to the top of the handle. The proportions of the body are excellent and the shape almost reminiscent of the Portland Vase. It has a pleasing "rim" about it's waist approximately two thirds of the way up. This is a very nice piece in great condition. No wear, cracks or chips. Thank you for viewing this listing.
