For auction is an original, 1935, newly restored Russel Wright for Heywood Wakefield console / dining table. This is truly a beautiful example of 1930's modern design; the architectural sensibility and elegant lines are exceptional...and it is very rare as well.
This piece is documented in Decorative Art: The Studio Yearbook 1935, C.G. Holme, New York: The Studio Publications Inc., 1935 and in Heywood-Wakefield Modern Furniture Identification and Value Guide, Steve Rouland and Roger Rouland, Schroeder Publishing Co., Inc., 1994. I've included images of relevant pages from both books. The table was among several of Russel Wright's "Streamline Modern" designs introduced by Heywood Wakefield in late 1935. The top is a straight-grained walnut, and the blonde wood base is quilted acer (maple), as noted in the 1935 Studio Yearbook. It is in excellent restored condition, however I urge serious buyers to look closely at the photos I've included. Specifically, please take note of the base, w the restoration is evident. Original marks on the underside can be seen in below photo. When closed, the table functions as a console (dimensions: 22" x 50"). It features a sliding mechanism (pictured below) wby the table top can be centered on the base and folds open to dining table size (dimensions: 44" x 50"). As a dining table it comfortably seats six. Please ask any relevant questions prior to bidding! Other info.: Local pick-up is welcome. The item is located in downtown Manhattan. Otherwise, we will ship via Plycon. You can contact them at or visit their website, , and they will give you a quote based on the item's dimensions and your location. And, of course, you are welcome to arrange pick-up with any other shipping service if you prefer. I accept paypal, money orders and cashier's checks. Money orders and cashier's checks must either be issued by the U.S. Postal Service or by a major US bank. If you are picking up in person cash is also welcome. Also note that I will be out of town for a few days following auction end, so pick-up or delivery will have to take place when I am back. I will be in touch with the winning bidder immediately with details. Thank you for looking and good luck!
