This is a good used vintage set of extension lip spur auger bits with the tapered ends to fit the antique style hand brace chucks. The set was made by and marked "RUSSELL JENNINGS AUGER BITS STANLEY TOOLS NEW BRITAIN CONN. U.S.A. NO. 32 1/2 QUARTERS NO. 100 STANLEY" and so reads the yellow & green label on the inside box cover. These are all Russell Jennings pattern bits, and so marked,"RUSSELL JENNINGS" on the shank, and the number size on either the shank of the tapered area of most of them. All bits are the fine threaded end screw type, most of them are marked No. 100. These auger bits are from the 1940's-50's era. All bits are in good to like new, useable condition, very clean, well cared for, none are rusty, a few have minor dings on the tapered end, no problem with use. They are in different sizes: 4,5,6,7,8,9on the top tray and 10, 11, 12, 13 on the middle section, and on the bottom tray 14, 15, 16/16ths. These all have the double lip or spur on each one. Very smooth cutting, smoother than the course type lead screw, since they cut through more slowly. The storage case is 4" high x 4" wide x 10.25" long, and made of all hardwood, with three compartments, one upper, one lower, one middle. The corners are all strong lap joints or sometimes called finger joint construction, in good shape. There is some wear on the original varnished exterior finish, but nice looking. All the sections are study and intact with separators that keep the drill bits from bumping into each other. The hardware is also in good working condition, with all original hinges, the flip latch clasps have been replaced with new ones, all in very good working order. The box is solid and clean, with about 95% of the original label intact. A very well known quality tool maker, and a nice example of their product! Top Quality!
