Princess Zinaida Nikolaevna Yusupoff NEW RUSSIAN POSTCARD Modern Russian Postcard showing portrait of mother of Felix Yusupoff , Princess Zinaida Nikolaevna Yusupoff, Countess Sumarkova- Elston wearing Russian court dress.________________________________________Born in 1861 in St. Petersburg, Zinaida belonged to the wealthy and influential Yousoupoff family and was considered to be one of the most gorgeous women of her times. Her beauty and grace captured the minds and the hearts of the Russian Imperial Court. Eyewitnesses were charmed and captivated by the solo "Russian" dance Zinaida performed at both receptions for the 1903 Costume Ball at the Winter Palace. From the diary of Grand Duchess Xenia (sister of Czar / Tsar Nicholas II): Feb. 11th, 1903 "... Several couples preformed Russkaya (the "Russian" dance) (two times) and Countess Yusupova danced alone - perfect. I've never seen anything more beautiful! We didn't dance much (I with Obolensky). Got back at 2.30, ball will be repeated for Mama and Misha." (both were sick and couldn't attend the first time) and on Feb. 13th, 1903: "... Yusupova danced Russkaya again - charming".
