This coin has a history that is traceable to the original buyer; my Grandfather. My Grandfather came from the Kiev area in what is now the Ukraine. Due to pogroms he was forced to move to Manchuria in the early1900s. He was lucky because he had the resources to get out. He went to Harbin and then settled in Shanghai. He was a businessman and owned and industrial alcohol plant. When the Kerensky revolutionaries tried to overthrow the Czar; my Grandfather, being a businessman saw it as an opportunity to make back some of what he had lost. The Kerensky's held some territory, mostly on the east. Of course one of the first things you do when you take over a land is print your own currency, which they did. My Grandfather took a risk and bought up a bunch of the new currency hoping that as the new coup overthrew the Czar the value would go up and he would settle for a nice profit selling it back.But luck was not on our side. Not only did the Kerensky's fail; but one of my Grandfathers workers tipped off someone about all the currency he had. In 1917 the infamous Korniloff gang broke into my Grandfathers house and forced him to open the safe at gunpoint.
