The idea was to provide specialist units with a wear- and weatherproof oversuit for use around the year in mountainous areas. The original Soviet models were copied and further enhanced in the 90's by a multitude of private companies, many of these manufacturers are still in the business today, supplying Russian elite high quality specialized kit.
