Wonderful lacquer box from Palekh, Russia. Hand-made of papier-mache. Size is 6 7/8 x 4 x 1 7/8 inches. Very colourful and detailed artwork painted and signed by a professional artist from village Palekh. Egg Tempera,24K gold. The outside of the box is painted traditional black with a golden pattern around the picture, and the inside is red. The Russian folk tale "Ilya Mouromets" is about Russian Bogatyr, who confronts a three-headed monster on Kalinov bridge, conquers it and marries Princess, his love. High quality shiny lacquer finish and polish. Some white patches are an effect of reflected the light. The real box looks better than the picture attached.
