AN IMPORTANT RUSSIAN PORCELAIN CUP AND SAUCER . BOTH PIECES HAVE BEEN PRODUCED AT THE ST. PETERSBURG FACTORY IN THE REIGN OF CZAR ALEXANDER III 1881-1894 FOR WHICH IT HAS THE GREEN PRINTED IMPERIAL MARK TO THE BASE WITH 3 BARS FOR ALEXANDER III AND BELOW 87 FOR 1887, THEN IT HAS THE LATER SOVIET PRINTED HAMMER & SICKLE MARK OF THE SOVIETS & THE DATE 1925 & ALSO A SIGNATURE. WITH ORIGINAL COBALT BLUE GROUND & GILDING AND LATER RATHER NAIEVE PAINTING TO 2 CARTOUCHES ON THE CUP AND CENTRALLY ON THE SAUCER. HEIGHT OF CUP 2.4" / 6.1cms, DIAMETER CUP RIM 2.9" /7.5 cms DIAMETER SAUCER 5.5" / 14.1 cms. T IS A SMALL CHIP TO THE RIM OF THE SAUCER ON THE TOP (See pictures 1, 2, 3 & 4) AND FURTHER SMALL CHIP UNDER RIM NEAR THIS (See pictures 5 & 6) AND TINY FRIT TO RIM OF CUP TO THE RIGHT OF THE HANDLE (See picture 11 although it may be too small to see). SOME WEAR TO GILDNG ON RIMS. A BEAUTIFUL PIECE OF PORCELAIN THAT SPANS A TURBULENT TIME IN BOTH RUSSIAN AND WORLD HISTORY. IF ONLY IT COULD TELL ITS OWN STORY!
