Russian Jewel Encrusted Silver Tankard bearing assayer`s & date marks for 1873, elaborately worked foot & body with applied 8-pointed stars, center set with large faceted emeralds, surrounded by alternating rubies & emeralds in the stars, applied & turned handle with rosette & ball thumb grip, lid having a gadrooned or fluted design with ball & spike finial, bearing makers mark CA3NKOBA (possibly the mark of the well known silversmith Sazikov), also bearing the double head eagle mark for Moscow, purchased at an estate sale of the prominent Civil War residence of Hugh Campbell in 1941 in St. Louis, Missouri by a family member and only now leaving the family. 850 grams. 13`h, 6.5`dia. In the original fitted case.
