Warm Welcome "THE OLENINS" by Yakunin Russian Lacquer Box . The original of this portrait of Grigory and Varvara Olenin was done in watercolor and pencil by Karl Briullov in 1827 and now hangs in Moscow's Tretyakov Gallery. It shows Grigory Nikanorovisch Olenin (1797-1843) and his wife, Varvara Alexeyevna Olenina (1802-1877) who was the daughter of Alexei Olenin, the president of St. Petersoburg Academy of Arts where Briullov studied. The dual portrait has been faithly recreated on this paper mache case by Yakunin. Fine gold filigree borders the hinged top of the box, lacquered in soft greys to resemble stone. Fedoskino. Measures 5.125" x 3.75" x 1.125" This box appears to be in excellent to mint condition with nothing to complain about at all. A small amount of paint off of the hinges on the back which is completely normal. (see photos for detail, please ask questions if you have any) Please see photos for better detail.
